Thank you for voting in the Charter Amendment on November 4th. Change is certainly in the air. We will continue to update you on progress of the implementation as the new County Council
Charter Amendment will make the County Council responsible to ensure that the county’s growth rate is no greater than that envisioned in the General Plan:
- The power to approve permits for tourist development will be transferred from the appointed Planning Commission to the elected County Council. In addition, permit approval would require a supermajority (two-thirds) vote of the Council.
- The Council would have the flexibility to transfer the authority to approve tourist development back to the Planning Commission, but only under the condition that the Planning Commission could approve no more development than is consistent with the General Plan.
